About

Our Mission

A primary responsibility of the Amateur Radio Service, as established by Part 97 of the Federal Communications Commission’s regulations, is the performance of public service communications for the general public, particularly in times of emergency when normal communications are not available. To that end, the Tippecanoe County Indiana Amateur Radio Emergency Service members, under the oversight of the American Radio Relay League, will equip themselves and train to provide communications as a direct service to the general public through government and relief agencies of Tippecanoe County, the State of Indiana, and the federal government, when requested by those agencies. Tippecanoe County ARES is an all volunteer organization providing radio communications in the event of an emergency or disaster situation.

Our History

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) consists of licensed radio amateurs (ham radio operators) who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Tippecanoe County ARES (TCARES) was first started in 2009 with the coordination of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League).

Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in the ARRL or any other local or national organization is eligible to apply for membership in ARES.  Training may be required or desired to participate fully in ARES.  Please inquire at the local level for specific information.  Because ARES is an Amateur Radio program, only licensed radio amateurs are eligible for membership.
